SOCW 5810 - Culturally Responsive Social Work Practice with Immigrants and Refugees

3 credit hours
Immigrants and their children make up 24% of the U.S. population. Social Workers work with immigrants in many different spheres. Among other things, they provide assistance with housing and employment needs, advocate for safe and inclusive schools, organize community responses to anti-immigrant incidents, assist with navigating the complex medical system, provide mental health services, and advocate for just immigration policies. Social work values of social justice, empowerment, and an emphasis on the value and worth of each person inform a social work perspective on grappling with issues related to migration. Elective.
