PUBM 5890 - Philanthropy and the Public Good

This course is designed to provide students in public service careers, both in the nonprofit sector as well as in governmental sector, a broad and in depth understanding of the key role of philanthropy in civil society.   Philanthropy is rooted in the value of caring for people, and is broader than charity. Multiple perspectives on philanthropy will be analyzed, including the intersection of philanthropy and faith communities, the business community, the provision of public services, the sustainability of nonprofit organizations, and American tax systems.
