ANTH 337 - Culture and the Body

This course examines the ways in which diverse cultures represent, customize, and conceptualize the physical and social body. The question that we must ask, and try to answer, is what does the body tell us about culture? We will compare the different ways in which cultures construct the “naturalness” of the body through “normality” and “abnormality”, power, healing, and suffering. 5
