ANTH 334 - Anthropology of Human Rights

The Anthropology of Human Rights is designed to go beyond the basic concepts of anthropology and to engage students with the challenges of real world situations. Anthropology is a discipline that is associated with the principles of engagement in the field. The core practices of anthropology involve long term interpersonal contact between researchers and their participants. In this course we will examine the areas of human rights and field research, and engage in the role and responsibility of anthropological inquiry. We will explore issues of truth and objectivity, the role of academics, memory, and the impact of race, gender, and social position in field practices.5
