PSYC 361 - The Psychology of Relationships

5 credit hours

This course begins with an examination of research on the importance of relationships to one’s emotional, social and physical well-being. Relationships to self, family, friends, coworkers and those of the ‘different other’ are then explored through film, literature and theory. Students will read current research in the field of relationships, first-person narratives of relationships from Freud, Horney, Frankl, Fromm, May, Adler, & Jung, and autobiographical accounts of relationships in the memoirs of current and historical figures. Students will be expected to apply theoretical concepts of relationships to practical, personal experience. Prerequisite: PSYC 120, and at least two psychology electives.
