Beginning with the films of John Cassavetes, a study of the aesthetics, subject matter, financing,
production, distribution and exhibition of American independent film. Among the filmmakers who may be considered are Dennis Hopper, David
Lynch, the Coen brothers, Spike Lee, Jim Jarmusch, John Waters, John Sayles, and Barbara Koppel.
