BIOL 470 - General Ecology5 credit hours Study of the interactions between organisms in biological communities and the relationship of biological communities to the environment. Topics include: population growth and regulation, competition and predation, community energetics and nutrient cycling, comparative ecosystem analysis, and the evolution of ecosystems. Laboratory exercises include: field sampling techniques, experimental population manipulations, and ecosystem modeling. Four lecture and three laboratory hours per week. One weekend field trip. Prerequisites: MATH 120; BIOL 161/171, 162/172, 163/173 (all with C- or better). Recommended: BIOL 235 or BIOL 252; Math 141. (fall, spring)
