The School of New and Continuing Studies (NCS) provides dynamic, innovative, and high-quality baccalaureate degree completion programs and professional development certificates specifically designed for adult students. The school is dedicated to broadening access to Seattle University’s transformative education and to meeting the future workplace needs of Seattle and the Puget Sound region. NCS programs blend academic and occupational curricula and are dedicated to educating the whole person, to fostering professional formation, and to empowering leaders for a just and humane world. The curricula are based upon the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm and encourage self-reflection and life-long learning. Programs are offered in hybrid format in order to meet the diverse needs of adult continuing education students.

General Admissions Requirements

Applicants for admission into the School of New and Continuing Studies must have a high school diploma or G.E.D., must be a minimum of 22 years of age at the time of admission, cannot be currently enrolled in any Seattle University program outside of NCS, and must have successfully completed freshman composition and a college-level mathematics course. The School of New and Continuing Studies accepts applications year-round. Please see below for specific program admissions policies.

Bachelor’s Degree-Completion Programs

Students seeking admission into a baccalaureate degree-completion program must have the general admissions requirements listed above. In addition, applicants must have the equivalent of at least 60 quarter hours of college-level credit and must have a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.00. Students who do not meet these requirements can appeal and request provisional admission through a process that includes interviews and letters of reference.

Certificate Programs

Certificate students must adhere to the general NCS admissions requirements listed above. Students of the web development certificate program must also successfully pass the basic computer skills test. Admission to certificate programs is by permission of the program director.
